Blast Templates

Cut-out explosions for the tabletop

I created some blast radii and cone templates for Chimera 2.0. They’re included in the Core Rules, but I thought I’d share them here as well, since they’re suitable for any game that uses miniatures on the tabletop. Please post a comment if you get any use out of them or can suggest improvements.

The templates are scaled for 1″-grid tabletop mats or tiles and are free for your personal use. Enjoy!

Blast Templates

Blast Templates

Blast Templates

These are for explosions that radiate outward from a central point, and they come in three sizes:

  • Small (1″ blast radius)
  • Medium (2″ blast radius)
  • Large (4″ blast radius)

Each template has a 1″ square in the centre. Place this under your target—everything else within the template gets caught in the blast.

Due to the size of the Large template, only half of it is represented—you’ll need to print out two copies and join the halves together.

Cone Templates

Cone Templates

Cone Templates

These are for directed fire that spreads out from the attacker’s location, and they come in three sizes:

  • Small (2″ long, 1″ spread)
  • Medium (4″ long, 1.5″ spread)
  • Large (8″ long, 2″ spread)

Each template has a 1″ square on one end. Place this under the attacker and point it in the direction of fire—everything within the template gets caught in the cone of fire.

Variants and Uses

The blast templates can be used for any area-of-effect attack: grenades, satchel charges, poison gas, and spell effects. The cone templates are good for dragon breath, shotgun-type weapons, flamethrowers, and perhaps gaze attacks.

If there’s a need, I may be induced to make hexagon versions at the same scale. Another possibility is to swap the fill style to represent different attack types (e.g., fire, frost, acid, poison, offensive magic, and defensive spells). If you have a preference or want to see something special, let me know, and I’ll post the result(s) here.
